About the 5 Cities Tournament
Zagreb, 2 to 5 July 2008

The City of Zagreb, that is, the Zagreb Sports Association, is organizing the 5 Cities Tournament, in which almost 500 young athletes under the age of 17 from Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Vienna and Zagreb will participate.
After a 12-year long tradition of the 4 Cities Tournament, Zagreb has – with a strong commitment of its Mayor Milan Bandić and support by the mayors of all other cities - joined this exceptionally useful and motivating project of sporting events and opportunities for young athletes from Central European capitals to meet and socialize.
The Mayor of Zagreb has appointed the Zagreb Sports Association as the executive body to stage the Tournament, which features six sports: football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics and – for the first time – handball.
The competition will take place at the sports venues of the Mladost Sports Centre (athletics M&F, volleyball F, table tennis M&F), in the sports halls in Tresnjevka (handball M and basketball F) and at the venue in Veslacka Street (football M) from Thursday, 3 July, through Saturday, 5 July 2008.
Apart from the competition, much attention is paid to providing an opportunity for young athletes to socialize and get to know the host city. This is why the Opening Ceremonies, including a welcome address by Milan Bandic, Mayor of Zagreb, will take place on Petar Preradovic Square on Wednesday, 2 July at 8 pm. Sightseeing is planned for Friday, 4 July and the Closing and Award Ceremony will take place at the Congress Hall of the Zagreb Fair on Saturday, 5 July.
